There’s an old joke about the boy who told his father that when he grew up he wanted to be a musician. The father replied that he could either grow up, or he could become a musician, but he couldn’t do both. Well, here I am, more than a few years removed from my own early dreams of a musical career, but nevertheless still going at it, proud to admit that playing music has indeed helped me keep from growing up all the way. Sure, the music has changed, as have some of the reasons for playing, but I still have that same youthful feeling of excitement every time I pick up the guitar and face a crowd. I hope that enthusiasm comes through in my performance and I hope that you will enjoy what I have to share.
Since 2002, Mike McCray has been playing the music he really always wanted to – original compositions, contemporary folk, and an eclectic mix of traditional Americana, rock, jazz, bluegrass, and whatever else feels right. His style may be a little hard to pin down, but that means there is something in it for everyone. Now into his second decade as a solo performer, Mike continues to discover new songs to play and audiences to play them for. Hopefully you will be part of one soon.
